Since a few weeks I am back in freezing cold vienna. I’ve never expected sooooo cold days, because it is march and my mind is in spring mood already!
Nevertheless I wanted to keep me warm and cosy – big sweaters, cuddly socks, coffee dates by the fireside, hot baths, reading sessions in bed,…
… and on one of the frosty days I’ve run out of my chai tea bags. So long story short, I decided to make some homemade chai spice. It turned out so well, that I really want to share that with you! The basis is like traditional masala chai, but I put a little bit more special ingredients in it too!
Chai Tea consists of a lot of different spices and black tea. Traditionally it is the national beverage of the indians, so the tea has already a long history.
According to ayurveda the tea has a therapeutic, pleasant effect on our body:
Cardamon activates the digestive system, ginger promotes the immune system and appetite, anise and fennel calm down relating to digestion, cloves are anti-inflammatory and cinnamon activates our whole body system.
Furthermore the spices in combination with black tea keep you internal warm!
Oh how I love Chai Tea….
Chai Tea Spices
Organic Spices: cinnamon + cinnamon sticks, cardamon, cloves, dried orange- and lemon zest, vanilla, fennel seeds, pepper, anise, dried ginger, pinch of nutmeg, pinch of maca, raw cacao + organic black tea
Mix all your favorite spices with your favorite organic black tea and put it in a jar.
Chai Tea Latte
For your homemade Chai Latte just put 2-3 tbsp Chai Tea Spice in a tea bag and pour some hot water in it. Allow to infuse it for about 5 minutes and heat some plant-based milk meanwhile. (I use almond or oat milk and create a foam)
Throw the hot milk to your tea and sweeten it with honey (ayurvedic) or anything else if you want it a little bit sweeter.
Hint: you can use a cinnamon stick to stir you Chai Latte instead of a normal spoon (:
